nothing fancy, I’m just building a small pond on the front lawn.

I’ve worked with EPDM rubber liners and PVC pond liners. Both work, but EPDM rubber is a bit costly. 45 mil EPDM rubber liner is what I use most.
Tip: Just make sure to properly line the hole you dig with sand or old carpet to protect the liner from punctures.
Thanks, I’ll try.
I second the EPDM. It’s a standard in the pond community for a reason (fish-safe).
I’ve used bentonite clay for my small pond. It’s a natural material that swells when wet, creating a waterproof barrier. It works great, but can be a bit more difficult to setup.
Never heard of this. Have to try once.????
Concrete can be a good option if you want something permanent. But it requires a proper seal, otherwise small leaks will form.
Ah yes, the classic
If you’re super lazy like me, you can just buy a preformed pond shell. They’re usually made of plastic or fiberglass and you just dig a hole to fit. Not as customizable but definitely easier.
We used to use tightly compacted clay soil. It works if you have the right type of soil. And if you already have clay-rich soil on your property, you can make the pond very cheap.
